Autumnal audio

After my recent performance I am struggling to see myself as fit to be a “blogger”. With a very laidback and somewhat lacklustre approach to my posts, my blog isn’t going anywhere fast... Alas, I will continue on my merry way, offering you what I’ve got (which isn’t much).
As the days begin to shorten and the chilly winds begin to blow, we realise that Jack Frost and his good mate Winter are on their way, hopefully bringing with them some of Hughey’s magic. After a dismal early March, some corduroy has appeared on the horizon and the swells have begun to make their way past the cape and onto Victorias inner west coast. Hopefully the current trend continues well on into the year, washing away another dusty and dry summer’s dust from our nooks and crevices. Hopefully these photos suffice.
A song that is almost as refreshing as the autumn winds is Jona Vark by Melbourne duo Gypsy and the Cat. Although another re-hash of the synth pop revolution, there is something about this song that will have you continually trying to wail along to the ‘Joooooooooooooona.....Jona Vark’ chorus. Pleasingly, Triple J has been giving this song a great run of late which will hopefully help to produce the rewards these lads deserve.

The other song I’ve been enjoying lately is a remix by none other than M83 (producer of some of Bloc Party’s, Placebo’s and Van She’s more popular remixes). The quiet Frenchman behind this guise is a creative creature by the name of Anthony Gonzalez. If you haven’t heard of any of M83’s originals, check out Lower Your Eyelids to Die with the Sun. I digress, this remix from 2007’s Mission by French band Fortune is a fantastic example of Gonzalez’s unique touch and although almost 3 years old it’s still a favourite of mine.

Lacking
Due to a somewhat lack of inspiration I don't have any particularly worthy recent shots to post so again, I'll leave it up to some older images to inspire.
The photos I have here are three of my favourites from my Cook Islands trip late last year. Each of these three photos are fantastic reminders of what an amazing place this is. Combining unforgettable waves with tropical weather, rainforests, coral cuts and motorbikes seems to work perfectly...
Also, due to the lack of recent images, here are a few tracks as some sort of a peace offering.
A young man by the name of Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson from Brooklyn Oregon is the creator of this fantastic tune. Think Arcade Fire combined with an African American twang, in a large iron mixing pot of folky goodness.
Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson – Buriedfed
Tacoma Washington, the breeding ground for this fourpiece outfit by the name of The Nightgowns. I strongly believe that if, on your first listen, you feel as if you’ve heard a track before then its generally a keeper. This is exactly what happened when I listened to Buoy by these lads. A fantastic little indie tune to keep your spirits up.
Although I can happily admit that I detest spiders, this is a big spider that I will happily have with me for a while to come. Seattle based Big Spider’s Back, from a city well noted for its revolutionary Grunge sound; produce a surprisingly harmonic and upbeat form of music that I particularly enjoy. With flutes, triangles and soothing lyrics, Big Spider’s Back’s Warped is a song well worth a listen.

Some....errrrr

February, the last month of summer and in my opinion, the best month of summer. The daily grind of employment has dragged most mortal tourists back to their metropolitan hub and transformed them into mere weekend warriors. It is these weekdays that I enjoy. The heat of summer combined with the relative calm of winter, and of course the season of east rock...
Here are some late summer snaps that will hopefully give your eyes something to feed on after a long, hot and busy summer.
A tune I’ve been listening to recently has been a fantastic accompaniment to this ‘late summer’ time of year. ‘Odessa’, by Canadian artist Caribou, following along the lines of the recent ‘chill wave’ movement, Odessa has that chilled vibe but with just enough summery twist to keep your legs moving. Take a peek.

Delay

Finally, the festive season has passed and life is beginning to return to normal here on the coast... Finally, I've got around to continuing with my blog. Hopefully there will not be any similar delays in posts in the future.
Due to my continuing work commitments I have not been taking as many shots as I'd have liked to but here's three more recent shots that I've liked.
Along with these images, here's a song that I've had stuck in my head for the past month. An electro-pop outfit from New York, Penguin Prison have the knack to create catchy lyrics combined with a smooth synth feel.

Step Back

Since arriving back from a recent Pacific jaunt, I decided to have a delve into some of my pictures from the past. As I scraped through thousands of scraps I was pleasantly surprised to see some shots that I had since forgotten about.
I love how an image can remind you of a particular time in your life with such clarity. Each of these 3 shots is accompanied with a story in my mind, a story that makes me smile nostalgically.
As I thought about images from the past that I had particularly enjoyed, I suddenly thought of a song that I keep going back to. Like a hapless mosquito drawn towards a UV light, I have continually gone back to this song and its haunting lyrics. Johnny Cash, the man, the legend...
